The flag of Bolivia was adopted in 1851 and was codified in the flag law of 1888. The flag, in a 2:3 ratio, is composed of three equal horizontal stripes. The top stripe is red, the middle stripe is yellow, and the bottom stripe is green. The center of the flag, wholly contained within the yellow stripe, is occupied by the Bolivian coat of arms. A version of the flag without the coat of arms is also frequently used in Bolivia.
