The British Virgin Islands’ flag was adopted in 1960. It uses a 1:2 ratio and features a dark blue field. The upper left quadrant is taken up with the British Union Jack, while centered on the right side is the territory’s coat of arms, a green shield bearing St. Ursula and her lamps above a scroll reading “Vigilate.” St. Ursula was a virgin for whom the islands were said to be named.
