Influenced by the US flag, Chile’s flag uses a 2:3 ratio and is red, white and blue. It was codified into law in 1854. The flag is composed of two equal horizontal stripes. The bottom stripe is red, symbolizing the blood of soldiers. The upper stripe is white, standing for mountain snow. The white stripe has superimposed on it and bordering the red stripe and the left side of the flag a blue field containing a white five-pointed star. The blue stands for the sky. Overall the flag is quite similar to the flag of Texas except for the size of the blue field.
