The flag of Cuba was adopted in 1902 based on a design from 1849. It uses a 1:2 ratio and is composed of five horizontal stripes of the same width. The top, center, and bottom stripes are blue and the two between them are white. A red equilateral triangle extends from a base forming the left side of the flag to an apex a third of the way into the flag and centered in the middle blue stripe. A five-pointed white star is superimposed in the center of the red triangle. The flag’s design is reminiscent of the United States’ flag, an inspiration for it.
