The flag of the Czech Republic derives from the old royal standard, which once featured a white stripe atop a red stripe. Today, the Czech flag is composed of two horizontal stripes of equal width, the top one white and the bottom one red. A blue isosceles triangle extends from a base forming the left side of the flag to an apex touching the center of the flag. This flag was formerly the flag of Czechoslovakia and was retained after Slovakia and the Czech Republic separated.
