The flag of Poland was adopted in 1919 and consists of two equal horizontal stripes. The top stripe is white, and the bottom stripe is red. The flag uses an 3:8 ratio. The colors of the flag are those of Poland and date back to an early symbol for the country, a red field bearing a white eagle. An alternate version of the flag places this eagle on a red shield centered in the white stripe. It is used for diplomatic representatives abroad.
