The flag of the US Commonwealth of Puerto Rico was designed in 1895 and made official in 1951. Inspired by the US flag and the Cuban flag, it has five alternating red and white stripes of equal width. Three stripes are red and two blue. A blue equilateral triangle extends from a base forming the left side of the flag to an apex a third of the way into the flag and centered in the middle red stripe. A five-pointed white star is superimposed in the center of the triangle. The flag is the same as Cuba’s, but with the red and blue colors reversed.
