The flag of Singapore was adopted in 1959 and uses a 2:3 ratio. The flag is composed of two equal horizontal stripes. The top stripe is red, and the bottom stripe is white. On the left of the red stripe is a white Islamic crescent whose open side faces right. Next to the crescent are five five-pointed stars arranged in a pentagonal pattern with one point directed toward the top of the flag. The red stands for brotherhood and the white for purity.
