The flag of Slovenia was first used in 1991 and made official in 1994 and uses a 1:2 ratio. The flag is composed of three equal horizontal stripes of white, blue, and red, from top to bottom. To distinguish it from the flag of Russia, the Slovenian coat of arms appears in the upper left section, overlapping parts of the white and blue stripes. The arms are a blue shield outlined (except for the top side) in red, and bearing three white hills beneath three yellow five-pointed stars.
