The flag of South Africa was adopted in 1994 and uses a ratio of 2:3. It is composed of a large green “Y” edged in white arranged on its side so that the two prongs of the Y meet the upper left and lower left corners of the flag, while the leg of the Y stretches across the flag to the right side, where it is centered. Above the Y, there is a red trapezoid, and below it a blue one. The inner “V” of the Y is outlined in gold rather than white and the triangle formed by the Y and the left side of the flag is black.
