The flag of Venezuela was adopted in 2006 but uses design elements that date back to the military campaigns of 1806 and first adopted in 1811. The flag uses a 2:3 ratio and consists of three equal horizontal stripes. The top stripe is yellow, the middle blue, and the bottom red. Centered in the blue stripe are eight five-pointed white stars arranged in a semicircle. On the left side of the yellow stripe are the arms of Venezuela, a shield above a scroll and surrounded by wreathes.
