Important Industries of Hamilton

Hamilton, at the center of the so-called Golden Horseshoe, is a heavily industrial city and one of Canada’s most important manufacturing centers. Historically, more than half of all the steel produced in Canada comes from Hamilton, from Stelco and Dofasco, making Hamilton the “Steel Capital of Canada.” However, the Hamilton operations of Stelco are due to shut down. Almost 100,000 metric tons of cargo pass through Hamilton’s airport each year, making it a major hub for commerce and trade.

About Hamilton

Translation Services Hamilton

Hamilton is a port city in the province of Ontario and home to more than half a million people. For more than a century the city has been synonymous with the steel industry, its largest industry. The current city of Hamilton formed only in 2001, when the old city of Hamilton annexed the regional municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth and six regional municipalities. The city is famous for its diverse architecture and landscapes, making it a natural location for TV and film production. The city also has a growing arts scene that is transforming Hamilton’s industrial image. It’s also home to the world renowned McMaster University. The city is incredibly diverse, and among its 500,000 inhabitants, almost one in four are immigrants from other countries. These immigrants come from countries as diverse as Italy (9.3 percent), Poland (5.8 percent), India (4.7 percent), and Portugal (4.6 percent). Hamilton is a sanctuary city for undocumented immigrants and refugees.
