About Los Angeles

Translation Services Los Angeles

Los Angeles, the City of Angels, is the second largest city in the United States of America and the largest in the state of California, with nearly 3.8 million residents. The city is also a very old one, founded in 1781 as a Spanish colonial city. It passed to Mexico in 1821, to the California Republic in 1846, and to the United States in 1848 as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo. The city was incorporated in 1850. Los Angeles grew slowly after that, with its major period of growth coming from the manufacturing sector’s rapid development during and after World War II, and the arrival of the Interstate Highway System to ease transportation to and from the city. The city is incredibly diverse. Its residents hail from more than 140 countries and speak and astonishing 224 different languages. More than half of the city’s residents are minorities, and nearly half of the city’s residents are of Hispanic origin. Spanish is the most spoken language in the city after English, and Catholicism is the most practiced religion in Los Angeles.
