About Omaha

Translation Services Omaha

Omaha is Nebraska’s largest city, and it has more than 430,000 residents. It sits within a metropolitan area of nearly 1.3 million people, known as the Greater Omaha Area. The city was founded in 1854 by settlers from Iowa. In the early part of this century Omaha began a massive revitalization, due in large measure to architecturally innovative new constructions. The development of new commercial and mixed use space has helped return the downtown area to renewed vitality. Almost three out of every four residents of the city is white, but the number of visible minorities continues to rise as the city grows more diverse. The largest minority group is African Americans, at 13 percent of the population, followed by Asian Americans at 2.4% of the population. The number of minority residents has increased due to “white flight,” through which white residents have gradually moved into suburban areas surrounding the city.
