Florida has a growing Latino community, therefore, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF) has developed a number of useful tools, programs, and services form this Spanish speaking population.
A state-of-the-art website has been created to provide language assistance and offer a better understanding of health care in the United States. This new program provides a culturally-competent health care system using internal and external initiatives.
According to John Kaegi, group vice president, "We want to become a trusted partner of the Hispanic community, offering guidance, education and the appropriate health care products to serve their specific needs." Kaegi went on to say, "As Florida's growing population continues to change, we are also committed to expanding cultural competencies system-wide to understand and address the varied perspectives and health needs of all communities."
By the year 2012, Latinos will make up almost a quarter of Florida's population. Many in this group lack health insurance that would give them access to quality health care. Using the Florida Saludable program, which means Healthy Florida in English, many of Florida's Latinos will be able to learn about health and wellness information.
Spanish-speaking agents will also be available when questions arise about health care and BCBSF.
