Melamine Scandal Triggered by an Error in Translation
Popular Translation Services:

A message was recently released by the Kyrgyz government stating that Chinese flour samples tested positive for cyanuric acid and traces of melamine. The information was broadcast throughout the area's media stating that the flour had arrived in Germany. This was untrue and the flour had not tested positive for either melamine or cyanuric acid.

The results were reported in English and translated incorrectly into Russian by a private translation bureau. The prime minister claimed the error occurred in translation due to a word "detection" problem. The word translated was taken as a verb, while the original function was that of an adjective.

The Kyrgyz government is extremely upset by the error. The vice-prime minister of Kyrgyzstan, Iskenderbeck Aidaraliev said, "We will not drop this issue out. The guilty ones will be punished according to the Kyrgyz law."
