At India's Panjab University, French has become one of the more popular languages. Over 150 students are currently seeking admission to learn the language and it continues to attract even more in academics.

Experts believe French is so popular because it is easy to learn and speak. In addition, the language is spoken in all five continents, which has made it a favorite of students.

Panjab University has decided to add a certificate in the French course in translation and interpretation from the Department of French. Professor Cecilia Antony, chairperson of the French Department said, "There are many students who are coming forward to learn French. Moreover, translation is fast becoming a rewarding career and so many learn the language to take up translation as a career."

It is likely the language's popularity will continue to grow at the university level, since there is an abundance of interpretation and translation work available using the French language.
