Due to the need of interpreters and translators in 2010 when the World Cup comes to South Africa, the University of Buenos Aires has opened an institute in Mossel Bay to teach South Africans to speak Spanish.
There has been a long-standing cultural exchange between South Africa and Argentina; however, this is the first project to be developed in the Municipality of Mossel Bay.
Louis Harris, the 2010 Coordinator of the Municipality of Mossel Bay said, "Many students enroll to learn another language because they want to look for work in other countries, and others come simply because they have a love of learning."
"Over time it will develop the capacity to teach all levels of language - from beginner to proficient. It will also eventually have a full translation and interpretation unit staffed by South African graduates who have gone through all stages of language training," said Harris.
Others who will also be trained to interpret and translate during the World Cup include ambulance drivers, police officers, information officers, and other security personnel.
