A Swedish publishing company is translating an English version of the Bible called The Book: New Testament. This new interpretation is in magazine form and is 280 pages.
The text contains many illustrations and even includes portraits of Bono, Angelina Jolie, and Princess Diana, who is portrayed as a messenger to prepare God’s way. Critics claim it is less holy than the traditional English Bible and some of the photos are sexually charged.
Scripture is comingled with politics and the destruction in Revelation is represented as an ecological, global warming-type problem. In addition, the Christian call to level cultural barriers and love all peoples is given much attention.
Overall, this English version of the Swedish transformation of the Bible is a loose interpretation of the original King James Version, but still focuses on traditional Bible themes such as justice, suffering, love, and grace.
