A new film co-production collaboration between Morocco and the UK has been agreed upon by the nations' filmmakers. With the use of interpreters and translators, the UK and Moroccan governments have successfully completed negotiations on a treaty that will allow co-produced films to be eligible for national status in both countries.
Barbara Follett, UK Culture Minister, stated, "The United Kingdom and Morocco have shared history of film-making, from Lawrence of Arabia to more recent productions like Black Hawk Down and Troy. This agreement will give film-makers an economic incentive to work together and build on that legacy, by giving them access to the benefits available in both countries."
Morocco continues to be an extremely hot location for moviemakers, and this treaty will strengthen cultural ties between Moroccans and those in the UK.
This is the eighth of the UK's bi-lateral co-production treaties with other nations. This has assisted the UK in producing over 400 films in the last 7 years in over 140 minority UK co-productions.
