Allocation of DKK 455,000 by the Nordic Council Presidium has been given to the Nordic Youth Council to increase their ability for future interpretation and translation.
The Nordic Youth Council had conceded that when it was not possible to understand each other in native Nordic languages, English would be spoken. This was not satisfactory to Nordic Ministers who believe the Nordic language is fundamental to Nordic functioning and cooperation.
Therefore, some of the Youth Council will be given interpreters and translators to facilitate meetings in which many Nordic languages and dialects are spoken. Lisbeth Sejer Gotzsche, the President of the Nordic Youth Council, thought the move was "Fantastic." She further stated, "We have fought for many years to get more money for interpretation and translation. I’m [sic] think that our decision to use English to a much greater extent in meetings woke many politicians up and made them realize the importance of Nordic language understanding."
Thus, the Nordic language will be maintained and appreciated in these meetings, rather than substituting it with English.
