The University of North Carolina at Greensboro recently received a grant of $694,832 to fund a cross-cultural education system that provides interpretation and translation services for the state's newest citizens. Not only will the County of Davidson be served, but the program will assist those in Alamance, Buncombe, Burke, Catawba, Chatham, Durham, Forsyth, Guilford, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Orange, Randolph, Surry and Wake Counties as well.
The interpretation and translation services will also include helping those interested in affordable housing by having translators participate in mentoring programs and other such services.
The program is designed to increase community participation through volunteering and civic engagement in North Carolina. Since 1994, more than 4,000 individuals in the area have participated in such programs in North Carolina.
