A unique collaboration will see a much-anticipated video game released in Spanish, thanks to the translation work of 50 fans.
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, created for the Nintendo Wii, is already successful in its native Japan, and is due for release in an English-language version this month.
But enthusiasts at Spanish gaming website DSWii.es felt so strongly that it should be available in their own language, they volunteered to help with the translation.
Now, for the first time, fans have joined with publishers to see the translation project through to completion. All 35,000 words will eventually be available as a separate download for Spanish-speaking players.
"This is the first time in history in which gamers will participate actively in the development process or the localization of a title," said Hugo Fraga of Blogocio, the media company that runs DSWii.es. "That's the really exciting part about this project."
"This is a great opportunity for us to connect with our fan base in Spain through such a unique and innovative project," said Raul Nieto Garcia of Rising Star Games, the joint Scandinavian and Japanese developers behind Fragile Dreams.
Rising Star Games specializes in taking successful Japanese titles and translating them for the western market. Since 2004, the British-based company has released over 50 video games for the Wii and other Nintendo games consoles.
A press release said the project "reinforces Rising Star's commitment to listening and trusting its audience, and the importance it places on being an approachable publisher."
