Success Story: Fast and Flawless

Exceptional Handling of Client Referrals

One of the most important ways new customers find us is through referrals from our satisfied clients. Here's one case where a referral led to a satisfied client.

We received a referral from one of our satisfied clients about another company, Primaris Management Inc., that needed our help. We always take client referrals seriously, and we knew that a referral meant that our new client needed our help badly. We immediately jumped into action. Primaris Management's last translation company had let them down in terms of quality and speed, and they were on the lookout for a new vendor.

Technovate Translations was able to help Primaris Management while they were vigourously defending themselves against a hostile takeover. We worked to translate internal memos in just hours so they could continue to provide up-to-date information to their staff and stakeholders. They couldn't have been more thrilled with the translations they received, or the speed with which we were able to turn them around. They had this to say:

  • "I like their responsiveness. We don't have to ask them 50 times to get something done and we've had a great experience in a short amount of time".

Technovate Translations works hard to ensure that every client receives the same speedy, thoughtful, and accurate service with every order.

The cornerstone of the Technovate Translations philosophy is Fuelled by Urgency and Care, and we're proud to show it in our daily interactions with our customers who need to have what they want when they need it with attention to detail.

Taming the Beast and All the Complexities that Come with It – The Large Project!
by Marcel Vilanez

A Message from our President

The translation industry is fragmented and made up of many small translation service providers, ranging from individual providers who moonlight as translators to larger operations with multiple offices. In the middle of it all is the client, the one who matters the most. Our agency is the perfect size. We're big enough to handle technical and large projects and small enough to provide the one-on-one, no hurried service that many companies find refreshing in today's fast-paced fiscal quarter-to-quarter business environment.

I've found that large projects can be defined by a few factors. Large projects are large because of (a) their size, (b) their complexity, or (c) a combination of (a) and (b). Large sizes for us begin at 50,000 words, which would be roughly the size of a 200-page manual or a 100-page legal document. However, this is just the beginning! We've been involved in multi-million-word projects.

How would we handle your large document? We start by asking two questions: What is your deadline? And what's most important to you with this project?

Ultimately, we know that while quality and value for price is a given, sometimes there are underlying factors that affect how involved clients want to be in the translation process. There may be multi-departmental involvement, for example, and we need to be the nucleus of the project.

Translation Mishaps of 2012
When we look back at 2012, we celebrate our translation triumphs, and we also pause to consider some of 2012's biggest translation mishaps from across the translation industry.

Then there is the project itself. A revamp of internal policies and procedures is very different from a new product launch that can determine the success of your company's fiscal quarter or year. Depending on your needs, we handle each project accordingly. Ultimately, we're in the relationship business and work to keep the wheels of business turning flawlessly throughout your translation project.

One thing we absolutely ensure is that you're working with our most experienced Account Managers and translators who have been involved in complex scenarios and can guide you through the entire process. Many times what seems like a life and death crisis can be managed down from conflict or even turned into an advantage. That's where our experience comes in.

Translation Mishaps of 2012

Translation Mishaps of 2012

Translation is an art as much as it is a science, but like any art, there are great artists, good artists, and some that make you wonder what exactly they were trying to achieve. When we look back at 2012, we celebrate our translation triumphs, and we also pause to consider some of 2012's biggest translation mishaps from across the translation industry.

  • In Arcadia, California in March 29,000 voters were sent election ballots that had been incorrectly translated into Chinese. The error in the instructions was severe enough to invalidate Arcadia's general municipal election the following month.
  • Another error in translating Maryland's ballot into Spanish left voters confused about the purpose of the same-sex marriage proposition.
  • New York State discovered that bad translations of its high school math exams produced by Pearson led to questions with no right answer in languages as diverse as Korean, Chinese, Russian, Creole, and even Braille.
  • A U.S.-based policy institute suffered embarrassment when it was discovered that a controversial fact in one of their reports was the result of the Government Accountability Institute relying on Google Translate machine translation, which produced an inaccurate translation that was the opposite of what the original really said.
  • At the London Olympics, a shopping center welcomed Arabic-speaking visitors with a welcome sign that was written backward with incorrect spacing.
  • An incorrect translation from Korean to English left Korean Air embarrassed when they discovered that their translator had cause them to call Kenyans people of "primitive energy."
  • Kraft Foods was embarrassed to discover that they had overlooked the need for localization in naming its new international spinoff company, Mondelez International, a name that is pronounced almost identically for a Russian term for a specific sex act.
  • The BBC-Showtime comedy "Episodes" goofed in its translation from English to Hebrew, accidentally writing the language backward on a gravestone used in the show, making the words say the deceased was "pickled at great expense."

None of these occurred on our watch here at Technovate Translations, but we carefully study other translators' mistakes to learn how we can avoid these pitfalls and provide the best possible service to our customers. We're on top of developments in our industry, and it shows in our commitment to accuracy and client satisfaction!
