The flag of American Samoa, a US possession, is in a ratio of 1:2. Adopted in 1960, the flag is composed of a blue field on which a white triangle is superimposed. The triangle’s point touches the left side of the flag, and the base makes up the right side. The two sides of the triangle crossing the blue field are edged in red. In the white triangle, an American bald eagle in flight is superimposed, facing left. The eagle holds in its talons two traditional symbols of Samoan authority, the war club and the ritual stick.
