On August 8, a bus crashed in Sherman, Texas with most of the passengers unable to speak English. This posed a problem for the rescue crew who did not know Vietnamese, the predominant language of victims.
Leha Nguyen was a survivor of the crash and spoke English, but was unable to help due to her injuries. She stated, "When I was getting out of the bus, I felt that I wasn't hurt that much but that I would be able to help them at the site and over here to translate."
Although Nguyen was unable to help, Steve Le, whose neighbor told him about the accident was able to assist. "He [Le's neighbor] grabbed me and told me that there's a bus accident and that they're a bunch of Vietnamese people and they need a interpreter," Le proclaimed.
Le got in his car and drove to the location of the crash to interpret and translate. Even a week after the crash, Le is helping those who remain in the hospital because they have no family near to comfort them. Le's dedication to assist by translating for the victims has demonstrated his desire to help his fellow human being in times of need.
